Acura Legend Gas Smell
Q. I have a 1988, Acura Legend Coupe, automatic transmission. Mileage 102,000. After driving my car there is a strong gas smell. I leave the garage door open to air out the garage it's so strong. Also recently the car has been dying when I stop at a stop light or when I get to my destination the car just dies.
One mechanic told me a couple of fuel injectors where leaking and he would need to replace all six. I called the Acura dealer and they thought I might only need to have them put on a new O-ring kit. I need your advice.
Thanks,
PaulA. It's not usual for injectors themselves to leak, but it does happen. This is a tough one for me to call since I can't see the car and either one of the mechanics could be right. I would tend to go with what the dealer said since they have a lot more experience with your car. And ask them what happens if they get done and it still leaks. Will they credit the labor you paid toward installing new injectors?
Don't be afraid to ask questions like this. As long as you do it firmly, but politely it can only be to your advantage.
