Dodge RAM DTCs P0336, P1689, P1693
Q. Hello, I have a 1999 Dodge RAM 3500 5.9 liter diesel turbo and manual transmission that I got error codes on, but no help. When cold, it always starts. I can drive it for awhile and it will loose power, the tachometer quits and if I kill it, it won't usually start for awhile. The Check Engine Light stays on. The codes that were given me are:
- P0336 - Ckp Signal Error
- P1693 - DTC Detected in PCM
- P1689 No Com between ECM & Ins
I would appreciate your help with these codes. It has 140,000 miles. The tachometer will randomly work and quit.
Thanks,
DonnyA. Okay, first the DTCs.

P0336 is saying you probably have a bad CKP. Here are the diagnostic charts for DTC P0336:

Some of these tests require the Chrysler DRB scan tool, but there are electrical tests listed you can do to find the problem.
