Ford Probe Reed Valve???
Q. Dear Mr. Vincent Ciulla, I drive a 1994 Ford Probe SE 4-cylinder manual transmission. Recently I had its timing belt and water pump replaced because the milage is already 76,000 miles. Also did an engine tune-up. It took the mechanic two days to finish the work. I am not familiar with the glossaries so I am not sure that I understand what has been bothering him.
Anyway, the car is running like normal right now. The mechanic said the "Reed Valve" need to be adjusted and belts need to be replaced. My question is; what is a reed valve? Usually how much it costs to adjust the reed valve? What damage could reed valve do to the car if don't adjust it? Also, what belts need to be changed besides timing belt and fan belt?
The car is running normal, no abnormal noise except after start the engine I can hear some sounds like "ke te ke te", does this come from some chain or the "reed valve". Sorry I wrote too much. I appreciate your kind help.
Best regards!
ZhiyuA. I wish I could help you with this, but I don't know what he means by "Reed Valve". I have never heard of it and none of the mechanics working for he has heard of it. I would have the mechanic explain it and, most important, show it to you.
There is an alternator (fan) belt and a power steering belt. The only extra expense should be the cost of the belts themselves since they have to come off to replace the timing belt and water pump.
And, please, let me know what he says about the "Reed Valve".
