Tripping Out

Q. Hi, I have a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria with P/S, A/C, Cruise control, 4.6 liter engine, automatic trans, fuel injection with 122, 000 miles.

My problem is:
My trip odometer has stopped working. However, the speedometer is still registering rate of speed but my milage is not registering. How can I repair the trip odometer which controls the milage register? Does the whole speedometer have to be removed, or can I reach the trip odometer works from under the dashboard?

Paul

A. The trip odometer, mileage odometer and speedometer are all one unit. There is no way to repair it and can only be replaced. There is also no way to get at it from under the dash, the instrument cluster has to be removed to replace it. It's quite a bit of work to get it out. While not very hard to do, it can be a PITA. The service manual for that particular car will describe how to remove it. And have some band aids handy, you'll need them.
