Dodge Durango Fog Lights Don't Work
Q. I have added fog lights to my Dodge Durango. They have worked for a couple of years. I noticed they stopped working (both lights will not come on) so I checked the bulbs. They look fine. I replaced the switch and the relay. Then I got smart(er) and, using a tester, determined that power is getting to the relay (oh, yeah, the fuse is fine).
When I touch the hot wire to the lights the relay buzzes (but no lights). When I use the tester at the lights I get the same results; the relay buzzes when I touch the hot connection. Is this a ground issue?

A. I don't know what brand of fog lights you put in or how they are wired, but they all share the same basic wiring. You have the fog light switch that sends power to the coil of the fog light relay and pulls the contacts closed, allowing power to go to the fog lights themselves.
Some have an additional relay wired into the low (or high) beams that closes (or opens) another relay that turns off the fog lights when the high beams are turned on.
In essence, it's a very easy system to trouble shoot. First you need to check the grounds to be sure they are good. This is the most likely cause. You can do this with an ohmmeter. Or you can use a jumper wire from the ground of the fog light relay to the battery negative post. If everything starts working, you know you have a bad ground.
The next thing to check is to make sure the relay is getting battery voltage. A bad connection will not allow full voltage to get to the fog light relay and cause it to chatter.
