Chevy Lumina Not Getting Any Fuel

Q. I have a 1993 Chevy Lumina 3.1 liter V-6 that is really a great car. I had a rebuilt motor put in 18 months ago due to a rod problem and various other parts replaced as any older model car will have to have. My biggest problem is that when the gas tank gets to a quarter or less, the engine will jump and stall out at red lights.

Chevy Lumina Not Getting Any Fuel

Put in neutral, restart, rev engine and it goes. Three months ago, it did this but finally would not start again. "Mechanics" replaced the ignition module stating that was the problem but a week ago, I went through the same problem. Car was running fine and just died. Let it sit for about 20 minutes, started up, drove three blocks died again.

"Mechanics" are now saying replace computer. I say check the fuel filter and pump. If it was a bad computer, why would everything work until engine warm and use gas in lines and then die like its out of gas? I am not a mechanic but wouldn't the fuel pump be the first place to look? Engine turns over but won't kick in.

We used a can of "spray start" last night and it started. As soon as that dries up, vehicle dies. Spray again, same thing. Are these guys that are "working" on my car just stupid or is this the "she's a female" and won't know any different syndrome?

Thanks for any help you can give.

A. Stick to your guns girl!! Go in there and tell them. The ECM does control the fuel pump though. Ask them if they will take back the ECM if it doesn't fix the problem. If not, take it someplace else!
