Stalling Ford Mondeo
Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 1994 Ford Mondeo 1.8 iLX. My engine starts okay when it is cold and continues to idle okay. However as I am driving when the engine is cold, it will stall occasionally when slowing down at traffic lights etc. I have had the fuel filter changed and it has just been serviced.
It doesn't stall every time I slow down and when the engine has warmed up it drives okay. Can you please help with this? I know I am probably looking at either the fuel pump, fuel injector or I have seen you mention a mass air sensor?
The mechanic I brought it too gave me the usual "it wouldn't stall for me" and " it could be anything".
Thanks,
PaulA. I don't know Paul, I couldn't get it to stall for me either.
If it stalls intermittently and starts right back up when it does, it is going to be really tough to find out why it's stalling. And the mechanic is right, it can be almost anything. Since you just had it serviced, and not knowing how many miles you have on it, I might suggest having the throttle body and Idle Speed Control Valve cleaned out. That is a likely cause of the stalling and a good place to start.
Then you can have the computer checked for codes. Maybe whatever is doing it threw a code out. Sometimes an intermittent problem has to become more regular to accurately diagnose the cause.
