Questions and Answers
Jetta Oil Consumption
Q. 2000 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 liter. Also having this problem, but started at 30,000 miles. Now I have 36,000 miles. Owned for more than two years at this point. Any recourse? Any class action going on? If Volkswagen will rebuild, do you advise, or just trade it in?
Thanks,
PhilA. There was a TSB, number 01-01, dated March 5, 2001 entitled "Engine - Evaluating Oil Consumption". The gist of it is:
Group: 17
Number: 01-01
Date: Mar. 5, 2001
Subject: Oil Consumption, Evaluating
Model(s): All
Condition: Customer complains about oil consumption.Process Summary:
- Service Manager/Advisor fills out Oil Consumption form and notifies OTS.
- Dealership Technician changes oil and filter ensuring proper oil brand, classification, viscosity and level when customer leaves Dealership.
- Customer is instructed on how to properly check oil, and when to return to Dealership.
- Customer returns to Dealership when oil reaches the add area on the dipstick.
- Dealership Technician checks that oil level is in the add area on dipstick, adds correct amount of oil to bring level to full area on dipstick and records amount of added oil on consumption form.
- Dealership Technician Faxes completed Evaluation form to VWoA and Calls the Dealer Technician Helpline for further instructions.
There is an Oil Consumption Evaluation Form to be filled out in order to document the oil consumption. Whether they decide to put in a new, remanufactured or rebuild your engine is up to them.
If you nose through the other Q&A's here, you'll see a women who fought for, and got, a new engine from Volkswagen. It was better, but still not as it should be.
