Chevy S-10 Has HVAC Problems

Q. Dear Mr. Ciulla: I have a 1995 Chevy S-10 with A/C. My problem is that the A/C will only blow out the defrost vent or at your feet. Also it only works on low or high nothing in between. Otherwise it works. The low/high has been a problem for several weeks but the air flow problem is new. What can I do? Help, the heat is on the way!

A. The airflow problem may just be a vacuum line off under the hood. There should be a black plastic ball bolted to the hood or near it. That is a vacuum storage reservoir. There needs to be a vacuum line from the intake manifold to this ball. They are known for popping off.

As for the high/low thing, I assume you mean fan speeds? If so, there may be a problem in the blower speed resistor or the fan switch may have melted contacts in it.
