Pontiac Sunbird Defroster, Door Locks

Q. Vincent, I have recently purchased a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird. It has 362,000 kilometers on it but still runs like a dream. I have two problems with it.

1) The rear defogger doesn't work. The switch doesn't light up or come on at all. There is not defogging happening at all.

I figure it's either the switch or a fuse. Before I tear the dash apart and replace the switch, I'd like to check the fuse for it. Problem is, it didn't come with an owner's manual and I can't see anything written in the fuse panel indicating which fuse runs the defogger. If you could send me a diagram or let me know which one it is, I'd really appreciate it.

2) The power door locks don't work. They click, but don't unlock or lock the doors. Again, could be a fuse, but I wouldn't think so if they click. Not a big deal if I can't get them to work, but it would be nice if I could.

Thank you in advance for your help,
Gail

A. Rear defogger is usually run off a circuit breaker. These are silver in color and in fuse block. It may be marked power accessory. Make sure there is power going to it and out of it.

As for the locks, sounds like the actuators are tired. I would try removing a door panel and wire them direct to a battery. One wire to positive, the other to ground. It should cycle in one direction. Reverse the wires/polarity and it should work in the opposite direction. If okay, problem is not actuator but elsewhere in circuit.

Do you think it's a coincidence that both of your problems use the same circuit breaker?
