Buick LeSabre Limited Questions

Q. I have 1992 Buick LeSabre Limited; 3.8 liter engine, automatic transmission, 160,000+ miles, fuel injection, ABS brakes, cruise control, P/S, A/C and rack and pinnion steering.

I have a few questions:

Buick LeSabre Limited Questions

  1. FUEL TANK: I was having problems with my car stalling when the gas was at ¼ tank full. It was thought that I needed a fuel pump. After diagnosis, it was discovered that I needed a new tank. I purchased a fuel tank from a junk yard.

The problem is now, my gas hand does not work correctly. It stays at ½ tank and when I fill the tank, it moves to full but after driving a few miles it goes back to ½ tank. I never really know when I need gas. I have to guess.

What could the problem be? Do I need a whole new gas tank or is it possible to replace the part that controls the gas gauge?

  2. INTERIOR LIGHTS: I was having a problem with my trunk opening on its own so the dealer disabled my remote that unlocks the doors and opens the trunk. Since then, my interior lights do not come on when I open the doors. They do turn on when I slide the switch on. What could the problem be?

  3. BRAKES: I took my car for a break inspection. After six months they were squeeking and grinding and the car vibrates badly when stopping. The guy at the shop showed me a groove in my front left (driver's side) rotor, a hose on the passenger side front was twisted and a rubber piece on the caliper was ripped. Can the rotor be re-surfaced? Do I need a new brake hose or hoses?

Thank you,
Toi

A. 1. you need a fuel guage sending unit in the tank. If it worked okay before the tank was changed, you put in a bad sender!

2. They unplugged a module that controls the interior lights. Plug it back in and fix the original problem correctly.

3. Rotors have a minimum thickness allowed. You need to have it measured to see if it can be resurfaced or replaced. The hoses should be replaced if there are any cracks in them. The loose rubber on calipers sounds like it needs re-built calipers.
