GMC Sierra Engine Replaced?

Q. Hello Vincent, I've got 1990 GMC Sierra K1500. The seller told me that the engine was replaced with a newer one, (no receipts). Is it true that the second digit on the engine block code is the year the engine was manufactured? And by comparing the VIN code in the dashboard and the one on the engine block. How can I determine if the engine is the original or not?

Thank you,
Tommi

GMC Sierra Engine Replaced?

A. The only thing I can tell you is to get both numbers and go to your local dealer and see the parts manager. He can check them against what it should have had.
