Ticking F-150

Q. Hi, I have just recently bought a 1995 Ford F-150 4.9 liter straight six. It is 4x4, manual transmission, 97,000 miles and fuel injected. My question is since I bought it I've noticed a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. I have had it back to the place I bought it for them to look at it, they told me that they don't here anything abnormally different from any other Ford truck and that it is normal.

But I did not hear the noise until a couple of days after I had bought it. Also I've noticed it only does it while I am on the gas and changes with engine speed. It does not do it at idle and if I push in the clutch and rev the engine it also does not do it. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

A. Without being able to actually hear the noise, it will be difficult for me to give you anything definitive. The most likely cause are the valve lifters. Now even though these are hydraulic valve lifters, they can be adjusted. I would recommend having a Ford Dealer do the valve adjustment since it requires special tools.
