Chevrolet Celebrity Falling Apart

Q. Vince; This car has ran great for me, but lately it is doing some unusual things. First, the cruise control ceased working. Okay, that is all right, because I use the car for work and short trips to the grocery store. Then, all of a sudden, the air conditioner stopped. When I noticed this, I also discovered that "HIGH SPEED" on the blower fan had also decided to go on strike.

This was not all right with me. But that was not the end of the surprises for me. Now, I have found our that the electric engine cooling fan no longer works. What the heck is going on??? Summer is coming, and I am going to need all these gizmos to work!!! Is this a common occurrence? Is it expensive to repair?

  • 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity
  • 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine
  • Automatic transmission
  • 200,000 miles
  • Fuel Injection
  • No ABS brakes
  • Has P/S; A/C; and Cruise control

Thank you so much for all your help!
Gratefully,
Joe

A. 200,000 miles??? And you're complaining? You need to be specific when you say the A/C isn't working. Does the compressor run? All your problems are probably not related. The electric fan may be bad or a bad relay.

Also the ECM controls it. High speed blower could be a relay or fuse or switch. Cruise control could be vaccum hose leaking or a broken wire in the switch. There are lot's of possibilities to all your problems. IF they are related, once you fix one problem, they would all be fixed. Just start with the one that is most important.

(Look for an article on Electric Cooling Fans coming this week.)
