Strange Doings' In A Yukon

Q. Hi! My name is Lanie and I'm having a problem with my 1997 GMC Yukons' remote keyless entry. It's a four door 4-wheel drive. It has a 255 HP vortec 5700 gas engine, 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. This vehicle has all the perks. Everything on this vehicle is stock, nothing has been added.

When the trouble started, my daughter couldn't get the drivers side, passenger door open so I thought it was locked and pushed the remote twice to unlock that side. The whole system froze and I had to use the key to open the drivers door then I had to individually unlock each door from the inside.

A couple of days later I as I was driving the drivers door lock started locking and unlocking by itself, the front passenger door did the same. I then turned the turn signal on to get off the road and the turn signal started blinking rapidly and clicking double time.

When I pulled over I put the vehicle in park and turned it off. I took the key out and the door lock and the turn signal (I guess it was these) kept making a clicking sound in the dash (Possibly under the dash, I'm not real sure). I restarted the vehicle and let it run for a minute then shut it off again. The same thing occurred. After a few minutes the clicking sound stopped. What could be the problem? Can you help with this?

Thanks,
Lanie

A. The clicking sound may be the turn signal flasher. If it sounded just like it does when you make a turn but the little indicators on the dash don't blink, you are probably getting some sort of feedback inside the multi-function switch. GM is having a problem with these at this time. For this problem and for loss of stop lamps. The fix is a new turn signal switch. As for the keyless entry, I don't know if they are related. When they work by themselves it could mean a short. Possibly a bad switch or wires touching inside door somewhere.
