Stripped Drain Plug

Q. How do you remove a drain plug that is stripped out?

Stripped Drain Plug

A. If I were to tell you anyway you can, you would think I was a wise guy. But essentially, that's the way you have to do it. I'm assuming you're talking oil drain plug here.

One thing to try is clamping a large set of Vice Grips® on the head of the drain plug and pull out while turning. Another is if there is room between the head of the drain plug, put as large a screwdriver that will fit between the plug and oil pan and apply pressure to the drain plug as you turn. Slow, but it does work most times.

Other than that, any way you can.
