Transmission Fluid Into The Oil?
Q. Hi, I have a 1989 Subaru three speed automatic 1800 GL Station wagon. Problem: The transmission fluid goes down while the engine oil level increases. No visible leaks, differential oil unaffected, and the flywheel area is dry. What is happening?

A. I don't know what to tell you Neal. There is no direct connection between the two fluids. The only fluid the transmission fluid could mix with would be the engine coolant. They both go into the radiator and if the tank sprung a leak it will mix with the coolant. But this rarely happens.
The engine and transmission do not share anything, they are two separate units that are bolted together. There are no lines in common or anywhere where they even pass each other. I'm stumped, I have no idea what is going on here. I'm sorry I can't help you with this one but if you find out what is going on, I sure would like to know what it is myself.
