Gargling Olds

Q. I'm having a problem with a 1991 Olds Cutlass Ciera. It has the 3.3 liter engine, with a manual tranny. There's about 114,000 miles on it. It has P/S, A/C and Cruise. I just bought it from an old lady that bought it brand new. I had it checked out when I bought it and nothing was wrong. About a week ago I heard some water running through some where on the passenger side of the dash. It only does it when I accelerate. Yesterday the fan for ventilation stopped. I have a feeling the two are related, but can't really figure out what's going on. could you help me out?

Thanks for your time,
Steev

A. Actually Steev, the two problems are not related. The rushing water you hear is the coolant going through the heater core. This indicates that there is not enough coolant in the engine or that the air has to be bled out of the cooling system.

The blower motor is probably a blown fuse or a bad motor. Unplug the blower motor and hook up a test light to the wire and turn the fan on. If it lights, then the motor is bad. If it doesn't, then you have a problem with the fan switch or a blown fuse.
