Volvo 850 Smells Of Gas

Q. I am getting gas fumes (raw smell of gas) in the interior of my car after the car has been running for 20 minutes plus and after I have been in stop and go traffic, rush hour type. I have had the exhaust system checked twice. Mechanics have looked at the car, but of course it doesn't smell when I take it in.

Volvo 850 Smells Of Gas

One person suggested it might be a oxygen sensor valve letting in too much gas at the stop and go. Any ideas?

  • Volvo 850 Turbo
  • Automatic
  • 175,000 miles

Thanks,
Barry

A. It sure would have been helpful to know what year the car was. As it is all I can suggest is to have the Evaporative Emissions System, including the charcoal canister and filter, checked for broken or disconnected lines. I would also strongly suggest all the fuel lines be carefully inspected for possible leaks.
