Dodge Neon DTCs 12, 22, 23

Q. Hi, I have a 1995 Dodge Neon base model sedan, 2.0 liter SOHC with about 130,000 miles, and an automatic transmission. I went and washed my car today, and I decided to wash out the engine compartment.

Well after I did the Check Engine Light came on. It's come on before once in a while, and I reset the computer and it will go away. Well this time it didn't. So I took it to AutoZone and a few codes came up. Some are ones like 12, saying that the computers been reset, and then I had number 22 and 23, #22 is the engine coolant temperature sensor is out of range, and #23 is the same but the air intake temperature sensor.

I'm guessing something came loose when I washed it, or one of the two went out because water got in it. Is there any way to check? Will one effect the other?

Thanks a lot,
Nick K.

A. There was a recall involving 1995 Plymouth/Dodge Neon Vehicles Built Through February 1, 1994. The recall replaced the PCM and installing a new positive battery terminal bolt. So I would check to see if this was done. It is possible that it wasn't done because Chrysler did not, immediately, send out owner notifications.

The two sensors do not interact with each other and it is possible that both have failed. A scan tool can be used to check the signal the sensors are sending out to be sure that they are correct.
