Intermittent Chevy ½-ton Stalling
Q. Dear Mr. Ciulla, I have a 1987 Chevy ½-ton pick up and just rebuilt the body. It has about 73,000 miles on it and is giving me some trouble. I was hoping you could help me out. Here it is....
It just started a few days ago, and isn't always consistent. It seems going around corners with the clutch in it just turns off. It's like when you turn the key back to shut it off. I have know idea what this could be, I did put a new computer in and thought that or the clutch might have something to due with it. So if you can be of assistance it would be greatly appreciated.
Matt
A. Whenever I have run into this problem it always turned out to be a wiring problem.
Since you did the body on it I would look at the ground wires. There may have been one left out or broken. The best way to check this is to run some fairly heavy jumper wires from the frame to the block, the transmission to the frame, body to frame and block, block and frame to the negative battery post. You get the idea. If the problem clears up, then you know the problem and can make the jumper wires more permanent. I really think this is where the problem is.
