Questions and Answers

Wheels and Alloys

Q. Good afternoon, I'm sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you could help me out with a small problem I have. I'm doing a research about the accessories of cars, specifically I'm focusing in the ones used by the Nissan Tsuru, the ones that you use to change the wheels.

I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find the right information, I'm trying to know which material they are made out of (I know its Aluminum, but I'm looking for the right kind of Aluminum) and also how they do them. I've tried looking information at Nissan Web page, and also in many accessories pages, but all the info I find seems very light, not very concise. So if you could give me a reference or recommend me a site were I can go look up for the answer I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for everything (and sorry for my english, I'm not used to this kind of vocabulary).
Carlos

A. If I understand you correctly, and I think I do, you want to know what materials the wheels are made out of and how they are made.

The wheels are not made of aluminum specifically, but of an aluminum/magnesium alloy, hence the term "alloy wheels". This combination of the two metals makes the wheels strong but light. What the specific formula is, I don't know and I don't think you will find it out side of the manufactures factories since there is a number of formulas used.

As for the manufacturing procedures used to make the wheels, you will not find that out side of the factories either. These procedures are generally considered, and I don't know if this is the proper term, a trade secret so it can not be copied by others. I do know this much, they are generally cast into the rough shape of the wheel and then machined to whatever specifications they have for a particular wheel.

I'm sorry I can only answer in general terms, but as I indicated before, the process is generally kept quiet.
