Concorde Dies In Drive

Q. After warming up to operating temperature (running for four or five minutes), my car stalls (duplicable) in drive. It won't stall in park or neutral, even if left running for 30 minutes. It stalls when going down the road, or when sitting at a stop sign, or light.

When it stalls, it will crank over, but won't start for 10 to 15 minutes. I have checked the fuel pump fuse, and relay, and the auto shutdown relay, all are good, and functioning properly. The next thing I did was check fuel pressure, It is within specifications (according to my chilton manual) even when the car won't start.

Then I connected a noid light to the injector harness, there is no pulse when the car won't start. I replaced the PCM to no avail and took it to the nearest dealer. They had it for three days and, somehow, could not duplicate the stalling.

1995 Chrysler Concorde
3.3 litre
Automatic Transmission
115,000 approximate

Where do I go from here?

A. Replacing the PCM was a logical assumption, but before replacing the PCM you need to keep one thing in mind. The PCM does not supply power to the injectors, it just supplies the ground.

The Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay supplies voltage to the fuel injectors. The PCM controls the ground paths to fuel injectors, by switching the ground path on and off. There is an orange wire that goes from the ASD relay to all of the injectors. This is the wire that supplies the power to the injectors. I would try replacing the ASD relay. That is the weak link in the chain and the most likely problem.
