Ford Windstar ABS Light

Q. I have a question about my car. It's a 1996 Ford Windstar (which I love!). It's got a 3.8 liter V-6 fuel injected engine and about 110,000 miles on it. Here's my problem. I'm married to a pretty much "car illiterate" guy and for some stupid reason my ABS brake light keeps coming on while I drive. But not all the time.

And, once it does come on, it stays on. Additionally, my regular red brake light will come on and occasionally even stay on. We recently replaced the battery and the negative battery cable (it was corroded to the point that when we took off the cable the battery terminal snapped!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, if you know of any good, cheap mechanics in the Louisville, KY area, a referral would be greatly appreciated as we are very, very limited on funds.

Much thanks for any help!
Robin

A. Well Robin, if the ABS light is coming on that indicates the computer has detected a fault in the ABS system. The ABS control unit will store a DTC, but you will need a scan tool to retrieve it.

But the first thing I would do is check the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder and make sure it is full. Other than that, there's not much else you can do with it.
