Engine Swap Q. Hello Vincent, I have the following two vehicles, and am wondering if I can swap the engines. 1996 Ford Contour LX 2.5 liter V-6 Automatic Overdrive Fuel Injected Power Steering Power Brakes A/C Front Wheel Drive 88,000 Miles 1992 Mercury Topaz GS 2.3 liter Four Cylinder 5-Speed Standard Fuel Injected Power Steering Power Brakes A/C Front Wheel Drive 76,000 Miles

My question is this, Is it possible to swap the engines, with minimal problems. The Contour is wrecked and not usable, but the engine and transmission are still in good working order. I still turn the engine on, every weekend, and put the transmission through its gears, to ensure that they are still grabbing. The Contour is not leaking any fluids.

A. It sounds like you have quite a few cars and trucks in your yard. If I try to keep a car in my yard, the police give me a ticket if it doesn't move.

I'm pretty sure the 2.5 from the Contour will fit in the Topaz. The Topaz had the 3.0 liter V-6 as an option and the 2.5 is basically the same engine.
