Hyundai Santa Fe Makes Noise

Q. Vincent, I purchased a new 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe in August 2002. It is the version with the 4 cylinder (over rated horsepower) and automatic transmission. It has developed a whistle type sound coming from the drive train. This sounds happens when the car is decelerating and passes through the 36 to 30 mph range.

Hyundai Santa Fe Makes Noise

The dealership acknowledges this noise, but says it is normal for this car to have that noise. Would you know what causes it and is there a fix for it?

Also, seems like there is more prevalent noise in the exhaust system since we purchased the car. It seems louder and throatier lately when you accelerate from a stop. Once again the dealership called this normal. Have you heard of any complaint like this?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

A. If they say this is normal, then tell them you want to drive two or three of the same truck that they have on the lot. If they all make the same noises as yours, them it may be normal.

I haven't seen any of these vehicles personally yet and there are no TSB's on this issue, if it is an issue.
