Mazda 929 Rear Speaker Replacement

Q. Please help... I own a 91 Mazda 929 and I need to replace the rear deck speakers. How do I go about removal? They are installed from the inside of the passenger compartment, not the trunk as usual. The speaker covers will not come up, what is the trick? Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,
Paul

A. There are three ways the speaker grilles are attached, either with four 8mm nuts under the shelf, two or three small screws through the top of the grille or with plastic clips that will probably break when you pry the grilles off. The four nuts are screwed onto studs that are in the speaker grille and pass through the rear shelf and into the trunk.

If there are no nuts or screws, you will need to pry the grilles up as gently as possible. I wish I could offer more help, but they are more of a pain in the neck than hard.
