How Many Shops In The US? Q. My name is Mark. I am currently enrolled at University of Akron in Akron, OH. I am working on a class project about car repair. I am attempting to estimate the number of auto repair shops in the U.S. Any ideas or know where to look? Thanks, Mark

A. The number of auto repair shops probably numbers in the hundreds of thousands. That includes the small "Mom and Pop" shops to the largest multi-franchise new car dealerships. I don't know where you could get a more accurate number since there are a number of service and dealer organizations and not all shops belong to any of them. There are some shops that belong to multiple organizations as well. So getting a reliable number would be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
