Volkswagen Cylinder Head Bolts

Q. Would you happen to know the sequence you would torque head bolts in for a 1974 Volkswagen?

Thanks,
Larry

Volkswagen Cylinder Head Bolts

A. Tighten the heads in order in step 1. Go around alternating between heads. Then, still using step one, torque them to 7 foot pounds. Now, using step 2 and alternating heads, torque them first to 12 foot pounds and then 20 foot pounds. If you have a 36 hp engine, torque them to 25 foot pounds. All the other engines get 23 foot pounds. Only a couple of foot pounds difference but it is important.
