Chevy Astro No Hot Restart

Q. Hi Vincent, Van has been well maintained and oil changed every 3,000 miles. Recently when I drive for an hour or more and I stop, the oil pressure gauge goes from around 40 to just above the red markings probably less than 10. If I accelerate all seems fine and I continue on, however, if I stop and turn off the engine, it won't start.

Chevy Astro No Hot Restart

It turns over but it won't start until the engine cools down, about one to two hours depending on outside temperature, then it will start. Oil pressure is about 40 psi. All is well, until the next time I turn it off. Can you help? My mechanic hasn't had any experience like this one.

  • 1995 Chevy Astro AWD
  • 4.3 liter V6
  • Automatic
  • 125,000 miles
  • Fuel injection
  • ABS brakes
  • P/S, A/C, Cruise control
  • Rack and pinion steering

Thanks in advance for any help,
Don

A. Although it sounds like you have a low oil pressure problem when hot, it may not be the problem. When it cranks and won't start, does it have fuel pressure? Spark? Any codes set in PCM?
