Jeep Cherokee Window Motor
Q. Hey, I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee with power windows. The passenger window will operate but it is jerky and makes a clicking sound when raising it. I have looked for anything that would tell me how that system works, even bough a Haynes book, but have been unsuccessful. Any information would be very helpful.
Thanks,
JustinA. Without hearing the clicking sound, it will be difficult for me to make a precise diagnosis. It does sound like it could be the power window motor thermal circuit breaker.
Inside the power window motor is a self resetting circuit breaker. When the power window motor starts to overheat, the circuit breaker cuts power to prevent damage to the power window motor. When it cools off the circuit breaker resets and the power window motor works again.
Excess drag on the window can cause the power window motor to draw more current and overheat. You can spray the felt glass runs with silicone spray and see if that helps. If not, you'll need to pull the door panel off and replace the power window motor.
