ATF Type A Or Dextron?

Q. I have a 1956 Cadillac that requires ATF Type A, however I cannot find it in my area (Dallas, TX), and as a result I am using Dextron. What are the differences between these two fluids?

ATF Type A Or Dextron?

A. Dextron III is pretty much the standard now days. I'm sure there is a viscosity difference as well as all the different additives for detergents. I think it would be compatible or there would be all kinds of disclaimers on the cans.
