Chevrolet Lumina Brake Lights

Q. Greetings, I am trying to repair my car, but I have hit, what I hope is just an oversight on my part, but it is a wall. I own and am working on a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, 4 door sedan. Actually I am working on a brake light problem. I recently found out that my brake lights on the right and left are not coming on when I hit the brakes.

The middle unit on the rear window is coming on. I thought that it must be the bulbs. I switched those and tested them by turning on my blinkers to see that they indeed changed from dim to bright. Then I tried it with my brakes and no light came on.

Am I looking at the correct bulbs? Or are the brake lights located under the piece where the rear view lights are located? Is there a fuse, or a line or something else to look for? I look forward to your reply.

James

A. Try turning on your hazard flashers first. I've seen a bunch of these cars that the 4-ways won't work the first couple of times you push the button. After pushing it on and off 10 to 20 times they should be flashing. Then re-check you brake lights. If they work, great! If not, the turn signal switch is probably bad.
