Pontiac Grand Am Dash Lights

Q. I have an 1987 Pontiac Grand Am LE. When I turn on the lights, the instument panel does not light up. Not only that, but the clock on the stereo shuts off. I bought another panel dimmer switch, thinking that that may be the problem. Unfortunately, it wasn't. I also checked the fuses, only to find that there isn't a fuse for the instrument panel.

There is a slot marked "Inst LPS" but that doesn't take any size fuse that I recognize. The instrument panel only lit up once, for about 15 seconds, but since I bought it, the thing hasn't worked. Can you help? I've spent a lot of money already!

Thanks...

A. You need to pull out the dimmer and see if there is power going to it and out of it when the lights are on. If not you need to find the correct fuse (20 amp) for the misssing one. If there is power in and out there may be a bad connection to the cluster or all the bulbs are burnt out (not likely).
