Nissan Check Engine Light

Q. I have eliminated the cause of the problem and now I need to know how to reset the "service engine soon" light.

97 Nissan Maxima SE model
45K miles

Is it true that if I disconnect the battery for more than 24 hours, the code gets lost in memory?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Reza

A. Disconnecting the battery for about five minutes should do it. The car may act funny for a while because the ECU will lose the stored information on your driving style as well. A Nissan dealer can hook up their CONSULT diagnostic tester to it and clear the stored codes as well as turning off the light. I never charged a customer for doing this, but there might be a minimal charge by some dealers if you are not a regular customer.
