Chevy Cavalier TCC Solenoid Replacing

Q. Hi, we have a 1994 Chevy Cavalier with a 2.2 liter engine, automatic transmission and 103,000 miles on it. We just purchased it for our son. We had to disconnect the TCC due to stalling. Our car manual does not give any help in replacing it. Instead says to take to a dealer. We would like to replace it ourselves.

Chevy Cavalier TCC Solenoid Replacing

The shop says it is the easier one to replace on the outside of the transmission, but we need to know what exactly do you need to do to replace it? And will you loose all transmission fluid? What tools are required etc. thank you for any help.

This is the greatest site I have visited. Thank god for people like you willing to help the common man.

A. The left wheel needs to be removed. Then you can see the "side" transmission pan. Remove it and make sure you have the new solenoid. A digital picture taken now will help with re-assembly of the linkage for the kick-down. Remove the kick-down linkage and cable so you can remove the solenoid and harness.

DIY: Replace Your TCC Solenoid (GM)

You won't need any more than one quart of transmission fluid as long as you don't remove the bottom pan.
