Chevy Brake Bolts

Q. I have an 83 Chevy Camero. I am putting front brakes on and I got the brakes on but the caliper bolts will not go in tight can you help me? I have tried new calipers new bolts but they all will not tighten. I even put the old caliper and brakes back on but nothing I have taken the caliper off and put the bolts through the bracket that is the only time it will tighten what can I try to get it to tighten up properly.

Thank you,
Barb

A. This is really tough, I'd actually have to see it to say for sure what's going on. One reason could be you have the wrong calipers but we'll assume for now that they are the correct calipers for the car.

When you got the calipers, there should be a little bag with a couple of metal sleeves and four "O" rings. You need to put these in the calipers for it to bolt up properly. In the holes the bolts pass through is a grove. This groove is where the "O" rings go. Then the sleeves go inside the larger bushings. You can put a dab of grease on the sleeve and bushings to slide it in easier. Set the sleeves so they are flush with the inside of the hole and slide the caliper on. Push the sleeves in until they stop and install the bolts. That should allow you to tighten the bolts.

If you are using new bolts, make sure they are the same length. Outside of that, I don't know what other advice I can offer you.
