Whinny Plymouth Breeze

Q. Hello, I own a 1999 Plymouth Breeze, 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine, automatic transmission, 49,000 miles, fuel injection, ABS brakes, P/S, A/C, cruise control and R/P steering. Here is my problem: The car makes a "whining" noise that is very noticeable when making most left hand turns. It continues to make the noise upon completion of the turn and acceleration for a few seconds more.

I have not noticed it when I make right hand turns. The car drives very well, no problems, there doesn't seem to be anything scrubbing. It has been suggested to me the problem could be with the power steering pump. This vehicle was purchased three months ago as a government surplus car. I have put 5,000 miles on it.

Thank you for your thoughts,
Roger

A. If it were a power steering pump, it would tend to make the noise no matter which way you turn and as you are going straight. Of course without actually hearing the noise, I can't really rule it out either.

Personally, I think you have a wheel bearing going bad. Wheel bearings usually make a noise on turns when they start to go bad. Noise on right turns indicate a bad left wheel bearing and vice versa.
