There are some applications where a gasket is not needed. Many oil pans, and other parts, come from the factory sealed with a silicone sealer. I myself have replaced oil pans using only silicone sealer.

Female has nothing to do with it. I know plenty of males who made the same mistake. Whenever you consider buying a used car have it checked by a professional (yours, not theirs) mechanic to find out what kind of shape it's in.
