Pontiac Grand Am Stalls At Stops

Q. Vince, my name is Kip and I have a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am which has approximately 120,000 miles on it. The car is a 3.3 liter V-6, automatic transmission with A/C, P/S, P/B, and ABS on the front. it is fuel injected. Now for the problem, the car runs fine around town.

Pontiac Grand Am Stalls At Stops

Driving 30 mph or so, but once it is put up to about 55 mph or higher for about five to ten minutes then slow down to a stop it die's in drive. It will restart immediately in Park but as soon as you try to put it in drive it die's again. If you let it cool for about five minutes it seems to be ready to go again. Now I have had the catalytic converter checked and it seems to be fine. Could you please help me?

A. Sounds like you have a bad Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Check this site for repairing it yourself. It will stall violently like you forgot to push in the clutch on a stick shift car. Very common.
