Cadillac Deville: A Keeper??
Q. Dear Vincent: I have a 1995 Cadillac Deville with 93,000 miles. Lately I have been getting the "Stop Engine - Low Oil Pressure" warning light. The local Cadillac dealer changed the oil pump and oil adapter, the sending unit, oil filter adapter seals and cooler line. The problem has not gone away.
They tell me that the engine is bad and recommended I use straight 30W oil instead of 10W-30, for the time being, until I can afford an engine (probably used).
Since 2001, they have replaced big items such as the A/C Compressor and the water pump. My warranty expired two years ago, so these expenses ($4,200.00 so far) are killing me. I bougth this car used with 32,000 miles and have taken excellent care of it. Vincent, do I have a true lemon? Can I trust this dealer anymore? What options do I have?
I'm a salesman depending on my car for my job and this is causing me great concern. The car will be paid up in December. Should I get another car and forget the engine situation?
I'll really appreciate your advise. Please fel free to put this up in your Q & A. Many thanks in advance. I tried to subscribe but couldn't.
Best regards,
JoeA. This is one of those tough decisions isn't it? Do you really like the car? If you put an engine in it today and the transmission went in a week, how would you feel? Unfortunatly, I sure wouldn't want that choice on my mind either. Have you tried giving Cadillac customer assistance a call? Did the dealer put a mechanical guage on the engine and get a reading? Have you tried the 30 weight oil and does the lite stay out? Personally, I would be looking for another car.
