Paint Scratches

Q. I have a black Dodge Ram and would like to know the best way, and products to use, to remove the scratches. I've used products in the past that have left a white haze in the paint.

Thanks for your help!

A. A lot depends on how deep the scratches are. A good polishing compound, such as Turtle Wax® or Simonize® will take out light scratches but have little effect on deeper scratches. There are different grades of compounds depending on how aggressive you want to get. I would start with a medium grade first and go from there.

To get out deeper scratches you will need a professional buffing and wax. This will run about $75.00 and may not get all the scratches out. Anything the professional buffing can't get out will have to be touched up with paint.

Most compounds will leave a slight haze. The area should be washed and a good coat of wax applied to bring back the shine.
