Nissan 200SX Bogging Down
Q. Thanks for the info concerning my 1988 Nissan 200SX firing order. It's the 1.6 liter, 5-speed by the way. Anywhich, I got the plugs, wires, rotor and cap done all right, but it's still not up to par. When I drive it and get up to about 3,800 RPM's it bogs down. Like it's being choked, or something.
It doesn't do it every time, though. Only periodically (enough to annoy me). Someone suggested that four (of the eight) plugs aren't firing, maybe the exhaust side. But it idles fine. Also, the coil was suggested. Do you have any ideas what this may be?
Thank you again,
JayA. The way the dual ignition system works is that both the intake and exhaust plugs fire at the same time at idle and under light to moderate load. Under heavy acceleration the exhaust side plugs shut off to prevent detonation. You don't actually need the exhaust side plugs for engine operation, they are there to reduce exhaust emissions.
I don't believe the problem is with the ignition system. It is more likely fuel related. I would suggest replacing the fuel filter first and if that doesn't cure the problem, do a fuel pump pressure and volume test.
