Nissan Sentra Airbag Light

Q. Hello, I was hoping you could help me with a small problem. My girlfriend has a 1997 Nissan Sentra with 61,000 miles. The other day her airbag light started blinking for no apparent reason. I've called around and it seems that it is quite expensive for people just to look at it, but most say it is most likely the airbag control module.

I was kinda curious on your input and if it is this, do you know of a place to acquire one cheaply. Also is there a safe way for me to install it myself? It seems replacing this item is really expensive.

Thanks a lot!
Chris

A. There are several things that will cause the Airbag Warning Light to flash. The SRS control module is a possibility, but so is the clockspring in the steering column, any one of the five SRS sensors or the airbags themselves.

The only way to accurately diagnose the system is to have a Nissan Dealer connect their CONSULT diagnostic tool to the system and see which part has failed. It will cost a few bucks to have it checked, but if you put a SRS control module in and that's not the problem, you blew $500.00 on a part you can't return.
