Chevrolet S-10 DTC P1886
Q. I have a 1996 Chevrolet S-10, 2WD with a 4.3 liter V-6, 4L80E automatic transmission, P/S, P/B, ABS, A/C, cruise control, with about 205,000 miles on it. I just recently received a DTC code of "P1886". I looked up this code and it states that I have a "4x4 Initialization Failure".
Unfortunately I do not have a four wheel drive. I also have noticed that since this code has appeared and the "Service Engine Soon" light has come on that my transmission is sluggish and slipping during take off. It even sometimes kicks real hard when shifting into second gear.
Also my fuel mileage has seemed to drop a little. If you could be any help with this I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you,
WilliamA. I can't access my service information at this time for this transmission. I know you don't have a 4L80E trans in this truck. It has to be a 4L60E. As for the hard shifting. When transmission sets some codes, it will default to a hard shift/high pressure to protect it from burned clutches. This code does not sound familiar, but if it is a 4x4 code, maybe you need to reprogram the PCM to get it back on track.
DTC P1886 - 3-2 Shift Solenoid Valve Assembly CKT Electrical
Either the 3-2 SS Valve Assembly is bad or there is a problem in the wiring between the PCM and the transmission.
