Honda Engine Numbers

Q. I purchased a Honda 1500? engine with the engine number EW 1619221. My understanding is that various digits specify various qualities of the engine, including year. Can you tell me (at least) what year this engine is?

Thanks,
Gordon.

A. I Wish I could Gordon, but none of my reference manuals break down engine numbers. And to be quite honest, I haven't had to reference an engine number in so many years, I forgot how the breakdown works. Generally the first letter is the year, A=0, B=1, C=2 etc... The second letter is the plant the block was manufactured in and the numbers are the serial number.

A quick call to the Honda dealer will confirm this or not.
