Dodge Van Check Engine Light
Q. I have a 1992 Dodge 350 Van with a 5.9 liter fuel injected engine. It has 38,500 miles on it, with an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, cruise control and A/C. At about 36,000 miles the check engine light came on. If you shut off the engine and restart it the light will stay off for awhile, sometimes up to a 100 miles before it comes back on.
The van seems to run fine and had an emissions check at about 30,000 and everything was fine.
A. I could guess all day as to why the Check Engine (MIL) light came on and still not get it right. The best thing to do is to pull the codes from the computer and see what they are. That will get us started on the right track.
Go to Diagnostic Trouble Codes for information on how to access the codes and what they mean.
