Cherokee Fuel Pressure Release

Q. Hello, I have a 1997 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 5.2 liter V-8. It's been stalling occasionally on me. Seems to start right back up though. I thought I might a a clogged fuel filter and want to replace it. My question is how do I release the pressure in the fuel system so that the fuel doesn't spay all over when I replace the fuel filter?

Thanks,
TB

By the way, that just popped up also. I'm guessing a clogged fuel filter? What do you think.

A. Here you go!

Fuel System Release Procedure:

  1. Loosen the fuel filler cap.
  2. Remove the fuel pump relay.
  3. Start and run engine until it stalls.
  4. Attempt to restart the engine until it will no longer run.
  5. Ensure the ignition key is off.

The fuel pump relay is located in the Power Distribution Center. It will be marked.
