Volkswagen Jetta Coolant Leak
Q. Hey Vincent, I own a 1992 Volkswagen Jetta and I am leaking coolant from what I believe to be called the cooling hose flange. My question is; do you think this should be easy enough for me to replace on my own? I consider myself pretty good when it comes to working on my motorcycle and car. I however have never done this job or saw anyone else do it.
It looks fairly easy. I was noticing on some parts sites that there is a cooling hose flange plug. I'm not sure what to do with this part or if I even need it. It also comes with the cooling hose flange kit.
The only thing I could think of; is when I pull the old cooling hose flange off I plug the hole until I put the new one on. Do you have any idea? Also, do you know of any good web site where I can go and look at some pictures of the motor and parts? Maybe micro fiche? That way I know I'm ordering the right part.
Thanks for your help,
AlexA. Here's a diagram of the major cooling system parts. I think what you're talking about is number 6, the thermostat housing. If that is indeed the case, then it is very simple to replace.
I don't know of any "cooling hose flange plug".
