Toyota Corolla Has A Fueling Problem
Q. Hello! I've got a 2001 Toyota Corolla automatic transmission with 25,000 miles on it. I've had it to the dealership four times in the last two months and the problem is not resolved. The first three times, I brought it in because the check engine light came on.
- Fuel hose (canister to fuel tank) loose, hose was replaced.
- Code showed gas cap wasn't fully secured, though I always secure the cap tightly.
- Fuel hose was loose again and replaced.
After the third repair, the fuel tank would not accept gas when I put the nozzle in and pressed the lever to fill the tank. The handle would click off as it does when the tank is full, though the tank is completely empty. I tried three different gas stations and two other people tried pumping it (including one station attendant) and it didn't work each time.
I took it to the dealer today to look at it. They were able to fill the tank with no trouble and don't know what would have been wrong.
It sounds to me like the first three incidents and this fueling problem might be related. Have you heard of this before?
Thank you!
KristenA.
I have not seen anything like this with this particular vehicle. Usually when this happens it's due to a clogged or disconnected fuel tank vent. Since the car is still under warranty I would contact the Toyota Factory Representative and make an appointment with him to have this problem resolved. You might also want to look into your States Lemon Laws to see what recourse you have if they fail to repair the problem.
